So I was a local video store this early morning to see if there was anything out that looked interesting. Load and behold Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands grabbed my attention, maybe beacuse I just recently seen the movie(pretty decent for a video game movie and thats saying alot) is why I decided to rent the game. The Wii verison is the only one that was on the shelf as the others were rented out so bare in mind if there is any differents when it comes to came gameplay.
First thing is first, I am already happy that they brought the old prince. There is nothing wrong with the lastest new prince in the 2008 Prince Of Persia or the game, in fact I enjoy that game quite well.
Forgotten Times:
Back to Forgotten Sands, as soon as I started to play the little tutorial level like the previous PoP(Prince of Persia) games, I begin to remember how much I enjoy Sands of Time, Warrior Within and the Two Thrones. I also enjoy the original Prince of Persia.
Having the same voice actor the the old prince is a nice touch of Ubisoft, it wouldn't be the same like him. Even though his voice will remind me of Cecil Harvey from Final Fantasy DS remake and Fenarel from Dragon Age Origins. Geez this guys plays alot of noble characters huh?
The Prince Has A New Bag of Tricks
The gameplay is very simliar to the PoP Trilogy solid platforming not to mention fluid motions you don't feel very restricted on what you can do. However the Prince has some new tricks up his...manly chest. A Sand Ring, the power to created hooks on just about any wall thus being able to climb them. A 'super jump' where the Prince can created a small wind and make him jump far, helpful for some pretty far platforms. A bubble where you float in mid air for a moment, also helpful when swarm with enemies.
You can use all these powers in order to get Form point A to B in a flashy style. Like you can 'super jump' to a hard to reach wall, then create hooks against the wall to grab on to and climb up the wall, the you can float on a platform, so you can 'super jump' again to another platform, so you can wall run up and create hooks to reach another platform...you get the picture by now.
You mean you have to use your hands? That a Children's Toy
The Controls are simple, its easy to use your powers and jump place to place, that are some times where you use the motion control. The standard swing your wii-mote to swing you sword gimmick that NEVER added any value to gameplay since Zelda Twilight Princess. There are excpetions such as Red Steel.
Help Me My Camera is Fix
Camera was always been the problem in platforming games and this is no exception, there are ways to move the camera at the Princes back to look around. However many of the places where you like to move the camera you are not able too. The fix camera does indeed point you to a general area and it sometimes a trial and error, and sometimes its hard to even know if you can make the attempt or not.
In Game Unlockable Content
There are serveral things you can unlock in the game, that in order to unlock you just play the game, unlike that DLC where you have to pay.
You can unlock various costumes for the Prince, some hidden maps you can explore that you need to use your new powers up to the max. A achievements simliar the 360 and PS3, and some videos, you can also play the oringal Prince of Persia game...so many bad memories of me streaming that game.
Overall I really did enjoy this game, of course the visual are a major step back, that doesn't change the fact that the game is very enjoyable, it may be short compare to the other titles and there are still bugs in the game, Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands is still to its roots.
